Liberty Plaza

Plans for a public gathering place on Georgia's "Capitol Hill" have been in the works since 1910. This 3-acre public plaza opened on January 16, 2015, is large enough to accommodate over 3,000 visitors.

​Liberty Bell

​In 1950, the U.S. Department of Treasury commissioned 55 exact replicas of the Liberty Bell, one for each State Capitol. One of the plaques for the bell states “Dedicated to you, a free citizen in a free land.” Cast by Paccard Fonderie des Cloches, France. Refurbished by Christoph Paccard Bell Foundary, Charleston, SC.

Statue of Liberty

In 1951, the Boy Scouts of America donated an 8 ½ feet tall replica of the Statue of Liberty celebrating Scouting’s 40th anniversary (1950) theme, "Strengthen the Arm of Liberty."

Veteran's Memorial

Just north of Liberty Plaza, in front of Twin Towers at the State Capitol Complex (aka, "Sloppy Floyd Buildings), is the Pete Wheeler Georgia War Veterans Memorial Plaza. Here you will find
  • Vietnam Statues (dedicated 11/11/88)
  • Persian Gulf War Memorial (dedicated 3/10/93)
  • Korean War Memorial (dedicated 11/11/93)
  • World War II Memorial (dedicated 12/7/95)
  • Vietnam Wall (dedicated 10/30/97)
  • World War I Memorial (to be dedicated 4/6/98)
The plaza, the only complex of its kind in America, also displays the names of over 11,000 Georgians who have died serving America's military and defending freedom worldwide in the 20th Century.
